How does it work?

You continue to have your regular lessons with your current instructor. In between lessons, we will have Zoom sessions where work on your mental game.

Every student is different, but typically I will work with addressing your inner dialogue, reframing unhelpful thoughts, neutralising anchors to past tests, working on any other anxieties you might have about driving and the test itself. I won’t be teaching you to drive, that’s your instructor’s job.

I’m primarily trained as a hypnotherapist, but I use all sorts of different techniques. Somoetimes hypnosis will be involved, sometimes it wont.

If you’re particularly interested to try hypnosis then let me know; time permitting, that’s absolutely something we can do. Equally, if you’re particularly averse then let me know and we wont do any of that.

Does it actually work?

Yes. I have very high success rates, and whilst I don’t offer guarantees, most people I work with pass on their next attempt.

How many sessions do I need?

I have had people call me in a panic a couple of days before a test, where we’ve only had time to do one session, and they have still passed. But that’s obviously not ideal.

Equally, I’ve worked with some students every week for a couple of months or more, but that’s rarely necessary.

Typically I would see people 4 to 6 times, with the first session being a consultation and the final session being a day or two before their test.

What is a consultation session?

A consultation is an initial session where we explore the issue a little; we try some things, we see what works and what doesn’t, and we make a plan to move forward. Hopefully we will even begin to make a little progress, but really the main point is just to see where we are with things.

For a more in-depth description of my consultation sessions please see “what is a consultation session?”

how much does it cost?

An initial consultation is £30. It takes about an hour and if I don’t feel I can help you I’ll give you your money back.

Full sessions cost £100, and are up to 2 hours. Typically sessions will be around an hour, but I will book 2 hours in my diary, and whether it takes 20 minutes or the full 2 hours the fee will be the same.

Do I need to be near you?

No. I’m based in Sudbury, on the Suffolk/Essex border, but I work entirely online via Zoom, so it doesn’t matter if you’re the other side of the country, or even the other side of the world, I can still work with you.

Can I stick with my current instructor?

Yes, the work I do is independent of what your instructor teaches you.

I would prefer your instructor knows you are seeing me because it may be helpful for us to have have chat about the work you and I are doing together, and how they can support that, but I can work with any student, no matter the instructor.

I’m an instructor, how can I work with you?

All you need to do is give my details to your student, however, there is a page all about how I work with driving schools.
